This project focused on creating a hotel lobby that feels both modern and sculptural. The soaring ceiling height immediately amplifies the sense of openness and grandeur, providing a dramatic canvas for the centerpiece chandelier. Inspired by the concept of “light in motion,” the design integrates hanging linear elements that combine functional illumination with an artistic, sculptural presence.
Concept & Inspiration
The chandelier draws inspiration from flowing lines and natural rhythm, transforming light into a visual experience. Hundreds of slender glass rods are arranged at varying lengths, creating a cascading, wave-like pattern that guides visitors’ eyes upward and through the lobby space.
This approach merges practical lighting needs with an expressive artistic statement, establishing a striking first impression for guests while reinforcing the contemporary, high-end character of the space.
Spatial Planning & Layout
The fixture is positioned above the central reception area, calibrated to balance the lobby’s proportions and guest circulation. The arrangement respects the functional zones—such as seating clusters and arrival paths—while creating a dynamic, rhythmic flow that leads the eye naturally across the space.
By layering light and form, the chandelier defines the central area without disrupting the overall sense of openness, offering both visual focus and spatial harmony.
Material Selection & Craftsmanship
- Glass Rods: High-transparency glass ensures soft, even illumination. Each rod is carefully cut and polished, producing subtle variations in reflection and refraction that add depth.
- Metal Fixtures: Black metal rods and fittings secure the glass rods while echoing the modern design aesthetic. The minimalist framework provides structural stability without visually weighing down the composition.
- Lighting System: Integrated dimmable LEDs allow for versatile lighting scenarios, enhancing ambiance during the day and creating a warm, welcoming glow at night.
Attention to material quality and fabrication precision was key to achieving a balance between visual lightness, structural stability, and artistic impact.
Design Drawings & Development
Detailed design drawings and 3D models were developed early in the process to explore proportion, rhythm, and alignment. These documents guided the team in determining rod lengths, spacing, and overall chandelier geometry.
During fabrication and installation, the drawings served as a reference to ensure consistency, allowing the modular components to align perfectly on-site. This method allowed the design to evolve smoothly from concept sketches to a fully realized centerpiece, with both visual harmony and technical accuracy maintained throughout.
Installation & Coordination
The chandelier was shipped in modular sections for easier handling and on-site assembly. Each glass rod was carefully positioned according to the design drawings, and fine adjustments were made to preserve the intended wave-like rhythm.
Installation coordination ensured that each section of the fixture aligned with the ceiling grid and spatial layout, producing a cohesive visual effect across the entire lobby.
Atmosphere & Guest Experience
The completed chandelier transforms the lobby with layered light and sculptural elegance. Daylight enhances the natural reflections in the glass rods, while LED lighting at night creates a warm, immersive atmosphere.
