Suspended within a double-height atrium, this custom chandelier is defined by its spiraling multi-tier structure, expanding outward as it descends.
The composition creates a strong visual anchor in the space, with radiating light points forming a luminous halo effect that is visible from multiple levels.
Spatial Strategy
The project is situated within a commercial interior featuring an open atrium and mezzanine-level circulation.Β With a high ceiling and exposed architectural lines, the space required a central lighting element capable of bridging vertical distance while maintaining clarity and openness.
Rather than introducing a dense or enclosed form, the design adopts an open radial structure, allowing the chandelier to define volume without interrupting sightlines across levels.
Design Geometry & Flow
The chandelier is organized through a series of concentric rings, each slightly offset and scaled to create a continuous upward spiral.
From each ring, slender metal arms extend outward, terminating in individual light sources that form a dynamic radial pattern.
This arrangement establishes both rotational movement and vertical progression, guiding the eye from the lowest tier upward through the structure.
The geometry balances repetition and variation, resulting in a form that feels structured yet fluid.
Engineering & Fabrication
The fixture is constructed from a precision-engineered metal framework, designed to support a large number of evenly distributed light points while maintaining structural stability.
Each arm is calibrated for consistent spacing and angle, ensuring uniform light distribution across all tiers.
Integrated LED sources are used for efficiency and longevity, with careful consideration given to heat management and electrical routing within the central spine of the chandelier.
All components were prefabricated in modular sections to streamline transportation and on-site assembly.
Installation & Coordination
Given the scale and height of the atrium, installation required detailed coordination with the site team and structural provisions above the ceiling.
The installation of the chandelier proceeds in a hierarchical sequence: first, the main support system is erected, followed by the sequential attachment of the light arms.
Precise alignment was critical to maintaining the intended spiral geometry. Final on-site adjustments ensured consistent spacing, level accuracy, and overall visual balance when viewed from multiple vantage points.
Lighting Performance & Atmosphere
When illuminated, the chandelier produces a layered field of light, with each tier contributing to a sense of depth and dimension.
The radial arrangement of light points creates a soft diffusion effect, avoiding harsh glare while maintaining brightness suitable for commercial use.
At night, the fixture transforms into a luminous centerpiece, reinforcing the identity of the space and enhancing the experience of vertical movement within the atrium.
